The Battle of lake Ash-Sharki[1] was a historic naval battle that took place between the Umayyad forces led by Al-Junayd and the Indian forces led by Jai Singh on Ash Sharki Lake in Gujarat side. The battle was fought in the 8th century and resulted in a decisive victory for the Umayyad forces. The Arab fleet, with its superior naval tactics and weaponry was able to overpower the Indian fleet and ultimately leading to their defeat.[2]
The Battle[edit]
When Al-Junayd become the governor of Sindh, he marched toward the Jai Singh, who was the son of Raja Dahir. Al-Junayd prepared boats to meet Jai Singh in naval batte, where Jai Singh also marched against Al-Junayd. Both met in the lake of "Ash-Sharki", which resulted in the crushing defeat of Jai Singh and Arab forces capturing him. His brother Sassa fled towards Iraq but he too got captured. Al-Junayd executed both of them[3][4].
