"That was a serious shortcoming."

This statement is subjective, and offensive to some. It does not have any factual content and should be removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.108.160.83 (talk) 09:43, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Note on rewrite and previous version[edit]

Hey all, for posterity and transparency, I thought it would be prudent to leave a note here about the changes that have happened to this article. Five years ago, when I was just starting on Wikipedia and I was (frankly) quite terrible at research, I undertook a major expansion of this article. Most of the work I did was based on a poor translation of articles on the Frisian Wikipedia, and as such, much of it lacked adequate sourcing and was unfortunately filled with heavily mythologised and even fictionalised information. This was brought to my attention by a colleague yesterday, so I urgently undertook a complete rewrite based on the reliable sources available to me in the English language.

The article is now fully sourced and a lot of the information from these sources communicated the scale of the problem with the earlier version of the article, from its inclusion of fictionalised retellings of history, to nationalist myths and propaganda, to flat-out inaccuracies and fabrications. I sincerely apologise for any problems introduced by the earlier version of the article and anyone that may have been misled by it. If you have any issues with the rewrite, please feel free to ping me here or make adjustments to the article. I hope the new version of this article provides a better foundation for improving our information about the Frisian freedom in the future. --Grnrchst (talk) 12:36, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sigehelmus: As you added a bunch of tags to the article last night, I thought you should see this. I hope I have resolved the problems with the article. If you have any more notes, please let me know, and I'll see about addressing them. Likewise, if you want to make more edits, please go ahead. --Grnrchst (talk) 12:38, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the ping and your thoughtful response and edits. I cannot unfortunately say much at the moment as I'm struggling with health issues again, but I was inspired to tag by a thread by a random twitter user "n00rdung" you can find (who himself was inspired by seeing the leaked EU5/"Project Caesar" game map that has "Frisian Freedom" as a political entity in the HRE; it seems Paradox Interactive took your old article as gospel for lack of other easy info?). ~Sıgehelmus♗(Tøk) 20:38, 19 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
