DMY dates[edit]

Olaf Schmeidt is Estonian, so "strong national ties" applies. I see that as "higher" than MOS:DATERET. Thoughts? — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 09:16, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Wikipedia:Overview of date formatting guidelines: "Note that MOS:DATETIES does not apply to topics related to non-English-speaking countries." That is, English "strong national ties" does not apply to Estonia. Doremo (talk) 09:42, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK. If that is the policy. It does seem rather weird to me — GhostInTheMachine talk to me 11:22, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It makes sense. If ties applied on the basis of all linguistic territory, articles abut China would require YMD format, articles about Afghanistan would require dates in Hijri format, and so on—and, conversely, articles in German WP (for example) about the United States would require MDY format.
