From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hi there![edit]

"Jordanblocker" is actually the name of a hockey team at Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, where I went for grad school. I thought it was a smart pun with a cool pronunciation even though I have no interest in hockey. It just came into my mind when I registered this Wikipedia account perfunctorily, not expecting myself to be a long-term Wikipedia editor.

Wikipedia has been an extremely helpful resource for me to get new knowledge and I believe it has even partly contributed in forming my personality.

More about me[edit]

My first language is Mandarin Chinese and am consciously trying to make English my primary language. I'm fluent in the speaking and listening of Shanghainese too, which I consider is a different language as Mandarin Chinese.

My activities on English Wikipedia[edit]

Some of my editing has been undone and some may turn out useless, and it's hard to measure how much meaningful contributions I have actually made for each page I'm involved in. Thus, I decide to just list out the pages where I spent more than half an hour editing. They are:

The full record of the contribution history from my account can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Jordanblocker

List of things I'm planning to do[edit]

This section records the things I want to do on Wikipedia that I have not done yet due to my procrastination.

Big projects[edit]

Each task here would probably take at least 3 hours away from me. Please contact me if you want to work together to get some of these done sooner.

  • Revamp the Coriolis Force entry. The status quo is intolerable. I plan to add the rigorous mathematical derivation (applying the change of basis matrix) and try to persuade the other editors to put that in a prominent position. Some stuff in the current version is wrong while others may be redundant or extremely unfriendly to someone new with the concept, and I will try to fight with the editors on deleting them. I will also add some applications of the Coriolis effect in atmospheric/oceanic dynamics that I consider important.
  • Create the entries for a few important meteorological terms, such as "Gradient wind", "Eliassen–Palm flux".
Small projects[edit]

Each will probably take me 0.5-1 hour.

My user page on Chinese Wikipedia[edit]

I'm starting editing on Chinese Wikipedia as well now. My user page on Chinese Wikipedia is:
