C/2014 E2

Comet C/2014 E2 (Jacques) is a new one, and as I am not as eloquent as you are, maybe that stub could have your attention. Your magic touch is needed there once I don't know what to write about it. Let me learn from you ! Krenakarore ^TK 23:39, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your post! I'm relatively new to the community, and your help with the Rings of Chariklo article and kindness is greatly appreciated. I've expanded upon the C/2014 E2 (Jacques) article (which was already in good shape) and removed a few values regarding the angular diameter of the coma and trajectory (units of length in arcsec and deg depend on distance to the object - also, both of these values will increase as the comet approaches the sun). Unfortunately, I don't think there's much more we can add to the article at the moment. Once more observations of this object are made public (hopefully some spectra too!), we'll be able to include some more substantial content. It would be nice to include some images of the comet (there are some nice ones on the "Universe Today" site and here). I still need to read the Wikipedia rules regarding uploading images before I add any. Thanks for bringing this to my attention - I'll keep a lookout for any new information and be sure to update the article.

Fantastic ! The way you express yourself is clear, like this the reading flows very nicely. I could upload a picture yes, but I intend to do a bit more by getting in contact with Jacques myself. There's also the Slooh website, which I intend to join soon. Right now I am a bit more concerned with my wife and our first baby, the very reason that has been keeping me in the bush for a while (I still need to finish that work on my sandbox). Three photographic images showing C/2014 E2 Jacques moving in the constellation Antlia.

Here is the reply from Jacques himself: "Thank you for including the article in Wikipedia. Anyway, the orbit of C/2014 E2 Jacques is slightly hyperbolic indicating that it is a new comet that came from the Oort cloud. It is its first and last passage by the sun, therefore it has no aphelion." He also sent me four pictures (telescope, astronomers, chart and a photographic image) which I uploaded to Commons but there's no way how to use them in the article yet. Perhaps you could add to the article that the comet has a slightly hyperbolic trajectory... Thanks :) ! Krenakarore ^TK 02:32, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Sorry about my absence lately. I like the way you've included this info in the article, and I think we'll be able to add to it once some speculation is made regarding how this comet was perturbed from the Oort cloud. I think we'll see some more information about this object in the news in the next few weeks as its orbital trajectory is better characterized.
