Orphaned non-free media (Image:Dirk Gently.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Dirk Gently.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:12, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

List of Green Wing episodes

Since there aren't many episodes, I think the two series pages would be a lot more useful if they are merged into one master list. Are you going to consider doing it? -- Scorpion0422 23:14, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

I`m torn with what to do with the list because it clearly has consensus to promote, but I still believe one list would be better than two. If I promoted it, would you still be willing to consider a merge? -- Scorpion0422 22:57, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
I've decided to archive it based on my belief that in this case, one article is better than two. If you wish to merge the two pages, then merge them into the series 1 page, then move it and you won't have to go through a new FLC. If you feel this is unfair, then please resubmit it, and I'll let Rambling Man make the call. -- Scorpion0422 23:29, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Stuart_Kenworty.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Stuart_Kenworty.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 17:22, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Well, take a look at the latest one, Portal:Comedy/Did you know/60, for an example of a template of how to do it. If still confused, I could add a layout subpage to copy for future reference. Cirt (talk) 06:45, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your recent edits to Safety Catch

Many thanks for seeing your recent edits to Safety Catch - you have been busy. I hope you don't mind, but I was the person who corrected the spelling of "controversial" on this page (listed as a minor edit). I was just looking at the people in comedy that you admire, and I am pleased to see that you have included Ronnie Barker and Dara O'Brian, and Arthur Matthews if by that you mean you like "Father Ted". Once again, thanks for the edits. ACEOREVIVED (talk) 20:20, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Post script - I should also have mentioned Stephen Fry on that list, another man on our current comedy circuit who is one of our "comedy stars"! ACEOREVIVED (talk) 20:26, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Aptostichus stephencolberti is a very cool idea for an article; I wish I had it first! One note: I believe the deal with Colbert's name is that in real life, he does pronounce the "T" but the name of his satirical persona is pronounced without it. Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! As you may know, there is another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In future, please upload media there instead (see m:Help:Unified login). That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box). Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!--OsamaKReply? on my talk page, please 20:10, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Ursa Major Awards

I'm skeptical whether Ursa Major Awards is ready for GA nomination. I'm concerned that it has too few references that would be considered independent sources; most of those currently present are to the Ursa Major Awards own website, and most if not all of the other sources are furry sites. What the article really needs is more references from reputable non-furry sites. If you know of any of those, please add them to the article. Without them I'm not comfortable that the article would even survive an AfD, much less pass as a Good Article.

Having said that, it would be great if it could one day qualify as a GA. Thank you for your efforts to improve the article. --Mwalimu59 (talk) 22:54, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Torchwood radio episode title

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Large Hadron Collider, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you.

I couldn't work out if this edit was vandalism or not, so I'm assuming good faith. The actual title of the episode is Lost Souls and I've corrected your edit. Please repay my assumption of good faith by leaving my correction in place. Many thanks. Maccy69 (talk) 19:23, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:MTW Cast.jpg

Thank you for uploading Image:MTW Cast.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Asenine  23:35, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Much of the information could probably come from the lead (and a summary of what was removed could be left in the lead). I don't think the article goes into sufficient detail about the podgrams themselves. I just looked at the article again, and I thought that maybe having a brief summary of the first one might help (summarizing the rest would just mean that every future one would need to be summarized, so that either the article would get too long or people would stop updating it and it would become inconsistent). A quotation or two would really help give a sense of what they are like (perhaps from the ones release after the first one). LIke I said, the podgrams themselves could be used as the references. I'm sure there is an appropriate template at Wikipedia:Citation templates. I'm also concerned that the first two paragraphs in the reception are essentially just long quotations with nothing being said about them. The quotation in the third paragraph is introduced well. I hope this helps, GaryColemanFan (talk) 15:09, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

I think the additions have helped quite a bit. I read through the article and did some copyediting. One last thing stood out to me — the lead states that the podgrams are among the most downloaded podcasts on iTunes, but the text of the article doesn't mention that. It seems like this is probably the most notable aspect, so some statistics would be helpful. This could be added to the top of the "Reception" section. It is mentioned in the lead, but the purpose of the lead section is just to give a summary of the article. It should not contain information that isn't also given later. I think, for comprehensiveness, a paragraph should be added to the "Reception" section that mentions the top five fact, and I think some numbers (actual chart positions or download numbers) would help make it an informative paragraph. Is there someone (or some project) that you can think of that might know how to find the top podcasts on iTunes? One of the music projects might know how to find that sort of thing. This seems like an important part of the article, so it would be very helpful to have it included. GaryColemanFan (talk) 15:04, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
Hello again. I just wanted to check in to see if you had been able to find anyone who knows how to find this information. GaryColemanFan (talk) 06:15, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
I looked around, but I couldn't find anything either. Perhaps your idea is the best way. If the "top five" part could be taken out of the lead and made into a brief paragraph (1-3 sentences) at the beginning of the "Reception" section, that should work. It would also allow for more information to be added as it becomes available from reliable sources. GaryColemanFan (talk) 15:20, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:QI Davies.jpg.

Stifle (talk) 16:00, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Stare-Out.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Stare-Out.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:8 Out of 10 Cats - DVD.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:8 Out of 10 Cats - DVD.jpg.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:09, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
