Samoan election results

Hello. Just an FYI, the invalid votes in Samoa in elections when there were two-member seats are not invalid ballots, they are invalid votes that the voter is entitled to – a voter may cast a valid vote and an invalid vote. This means that valid votes + invalid votes does not equal ballots cast, and cannot be used for turnout calculations. Cheers, Number 57 21:38, 25 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi, look, the image I put is the most appropriate for the article, the one that was there before is already used in other articles, I don't understand why you undo my edit, exactly what else is there to discuss on this matter?--Oli (talk) 02:29, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

Hope you are well. Could you help me change the default colour of the political party I've linked above. I've tried to change but it seems I can't. It predominantly uses yellow as their colour choice. The code is # F4CB23. Thank you in advance. 154.70.0.223 (talk) 21:45, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Thank you. How is that generated? Because it cannot be done on the main page.154.70.0.223 (talk) 07:47, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
The colour settings for political parties and coalitions are located at Module:Political party. The colours are on data pages according to what letter the party starts with. It appears that all these pages are currently protected, which means IPs cannot edit them. Thus if you wish to make adjustments to these pages at this time, you will need to create an account. I've noticed an abbreviation for the Kenya Kwanza alliance, which is not correct. It has never used an abbreviation (KK) and no source has ever referred the alliance as such. Cheers.154.70.0.223 (talk) 23:00, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

Apportionment diagrams

Hello. Did you know there is a template that draws these automatically, ensuring that the colours match those in the modules? See an example here. Will save you having to create the images. Cheers, Number 57 18:01, 27 January 2023 (UTC)

Parliament diagram changes

Hello. I don't know if you're aware of the changes that have been made to your Grenadian parliament diagrams (e.g. this one). It definitely doesn't look like an improvement to me... Cheers, Number 57 15:29, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Hi there. I agree the changes are not better; I've reverted my Grenadian diagrams to the original versions. But I will add some PD templates once those are working again. Thanks, N Panama 84534 22:13, 23 April 2023 (UTC)

Succeeding vs Predecessor in Template:Infobox officeholder

Hey, just to let you know in case you don't. Until the person becomes the office holder of their position (e.g. after taking an oath), the "succeeding" parameter is used. This way the label above says "Assuming office" instead of "Assumed office".

Questions

Hello.

Thanks for the message.

I have a couple questions please, if you do not mind.

  1. How do I add an Authority Control Box? - I am working on trying to add information to authors for the Pacific Islands Region / Oceania and noticed that some of them do not have authority control boxes with the authority control data.
  2. I want to add some categories which do not seem to exist. How do I add them? I am referring to the different categories used for writers, poets, artists etc. I notice that similar ones exist for other countries but do not exist yet for many small countries. Wikipedia is one of the primary sources people go to to find out about stuff like who are the writers from a certain country or region etc. I think that people who want to find out about writers of these small island states should be able to find all relevant writers, artists etc as easily as people from other countries. So I am trying to fill out the relevant categories so that these people are more visible and that people are able to find them.

Thanks

Simo Faletoese (talk) 14:29, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

Greetings!
I am not sure about the first question sorry, I recommend you ask this at the Teahouse.
As for the second question, if you want to add a non-existent category you will have to create it. For this I recommend you have a look at the Creating category pages guide.
Best of luck colleague — N Panama 84534 00:00, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
thank you
i will do as you suggest Simo Faletoese (talk) 00:34, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
This question has been hanging around all day without getting much response, so I'm turning off the bleat.
You can add the {{Authority Control}} template to any article without knowing anything more.
If you do know more, you would add the actual authority control information in Wikidata. See WP:Authority control and Help:Authority control for more information from the Wikipedia side.
I found something close to a tutorial for adding Worldcat identities to Wikidata here: - https://hangingtogether.org/libraries-think-they-are-notable-using-worldcat-holdings-data-to-fill-gaps-in-wikipedia/
There are a number of Wikipedia editors who are also experts on Wikidata, but you may want to ask on Wikidata for their help, since this request here did not find much response.
With respect to adding categories, the above-mentioned page talks about how to do it, but the categorization system has grown to be fairly complicated, especially around people-oriented categories, so I advise you to proceed cautiously and don't add a lot of stuff at one time until you've seen how it all is expected to fit together. If you have already mastered the difference between "diffusing" and "non-diffusing" categories, you may know enough to go right ahead; otherwise, tread slowly. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 01:24, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
@Simo Faletoese: I misread the situation a bit. Normally you would use the {{help}} template on your own talk page. But if you are looking to get an answer from a specific user, you should not use the help template, but simply notify that user using the {{ping|username}} template. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 01:35, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Ahhhh THANK YOU!
This helps heaps. I noticed that many author articles do not have Authority controls included including some that are not only well known but prolific so I wanted to be able to added this data. Now I will be able to do so.
I will look at the Creating categories page. I think I figured out the whole "diffusing" and "non-diffusing" categories thing already but will read it just to be sure. What I was doing was comparing the articles of people with similar profiles and then seeing what categories they had and then going and ensuring that others whose profiles were the same matched by adding the missing bits as well as going to the categories and then checking who was on it and then going to the individual's page and adding the category that was missing.
That was kind of hazard so I am being more methodical now and doing all this off line first and adding all the info in a Word file first and then going through and adding them in batches.
Again thank you Simo Faletoese (talk) 13:07, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
