Image upload to Wikipedia Commons[edit]

Hello. I have uploaded my photograph of Nasreen Pervin Huq to Wikipedia Commons as you suggest, and you are free to use it. I am afraid I don't speak Bangla even though I lived in Dhaka, but you are welcome to translate the entry if you would like, or at least use it as a starting point. The information (and spelling of her name) is from her c.v. and family, so it's correct. The photo can be found at:

Statistics[edit]

Hi! Please see Wikipedia:Wikipedia articles per population where the bengali language article stats are still lagging. Could you please updare? Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 12:16, 6 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Saravask[edit]

So far as I know, Saravask does not speak Bengali. He is probably from Kerala. In fact, I also once thought he knows Bengali! His article on Tagore is definitely the best short writing on the whole aspect of tagore I have come across. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dwaipayanc (talkcontribs)

Note: I'm from Andhra Pradesh, not Kerala or Bengal. Hope you don't mind. :-) Saravask 06:49, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ha ha ha, not at all, I'm rather amazed at your depth of devotion towards the article Rabindranath Tagore. Please accept my heartiest gratitude for that. You are also a great editor ... the prose of the article is awesome. Thanks. --Ragib 06:51, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bye the way, your effort in Bangladeshi media has also inspired me to do similar popularisation here in West Bengal. However, I am short of time now. Will try to do in July-August. I may need some tips from you then. I hope you have already planned a similar news brief before Bangladesh goes there in the first page. Bye! --Dwaipayan (talk) 06:00, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the message. I am amazed at Saravask's not being Bengali ...wow!! His writeup on Tagore is indeed the best article on him I've ever read in print or online. Amazing!!.
By the way, I don't know if you listen to BBC's Bengali service, but last week, they interviewed me regarding Bangla wikipedia. I'll mail you a link to it. Also, we have organized some people from media, open source community etc. in a mailing list. Please check out the discussion at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bangla_wiki . Of course, you won't find anything substantial there yet, but the readers contain a lot of media people, and Pallab (the prothom alo journalist) is one of them. Perhaps you can get some West Bengali journalists intereted in it. After all, BBC World was interested in the story. :)
(The group organized in Bangladesh is pretty enthusiastic, they even held a rally with banners during the Pohela Boishakh celebrations.)
Thanks --Ragib 06:07, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for publicizing the Tagore main-paging — it should attract a lot of useful improvements to the Tagore and Bengal articles (and hopefully new editors) from Bengal. Saravask 06:54, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ragib, I am a member of that yahoo group for quite some time. However, I hardly check the messages there. Anyway, I'll try ti help peomoting Wiki a few months later. Bye.
PS. Hope I have not crossed the limit here. ;). Bye.--Dwaipayan (talk) 09:15, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I saw by chance the discussion here. Sometimes a useful trick i think. I am a sysop bureaucrat on cs.wikisource and would like to know it, as we have since some months some difficulties with some vandals. Can you tell me how you manage it? If you don't to make it here, so please contact me via e-mail either on my page in cs.wikisource or multilingual wikisource.org, where I am a sysop. Both pages you will find on my page here. License tagging for Image:Durga puja in Dhakeshwari temple.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Durga puja in Dhakeshwari temple.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:06, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Matiur Rahman[edit]

I just came across the Matiur Rahman (journalist) page, which you created, and was wondering if there was a link to the same article in the Bangla wikipedia that could be added to the English? Thanks for your message, I have added an interwiki link to the Bangla wikipedia article, but that one does not include a lot so far. But I'll try to add more content in both of the pages. Thanks. --Ragib 04:13, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How will I stop it[edit]

Mukerjee edited Kazi Nazrul Islam and deleted whimsically. I was busy for some day, now I wanted to start work again and look what I found. Saying irrelevant, he deleted the work of the poet. That was only a sample of Nazrul's work. If it is irrelevant in this page, make it relavant with appropriate page setup. I don't know him, but I saw his edit. I don't like this edit. Please, inspire me, I want to be patient. Zahidbuet 20:47, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, you can't really ask other people not to edit a page. When you submit something, you do it with the full expectation that others can remove/edit/modify it mercilessly. What you can and should do is to start a discussion thread in Talk:Kazi Nazrul Islam to discuss there and place your arguments. Reaching consensus is the best way to go. Thanks. --Ragib 04:22, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Think about it, someone named his son and people are digging conspiracy from it. I haven't read any autobiography that states the person's naming of his son. Thanks. Zahidbuet 09:06, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

thanks[edit]

Ragibbhai - thanks a lot for your support! I was deeply touched and honored with the enthusiastic support and confidence that was expressed in me by so many of my colleagues - and now more than ever - my dear friends. Withdrawing the nomination was following the footsteps of Gandhi - and breathing the pure air of freedom. Rama's Arrow 22:15, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm really sorry to see you withdraw the nomination. Well, the human nature is quite strange; I personally didn't find your responses to the oppose votes anything done incorrectly. Rather, I feel the candidates are entitled to question the oppose votes, and put them in proper perspective. Why some other editors found it objectionable, is beyond my guess. Life is unfair at times, but that doesn't mean you have to be disheartened by it. I hope you'd continue your excellent edits, and I'm sure that the next time you are nominated, it will be successful. Thanks. --Ragib 03:42, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bandarban District[edit]

I tried to be helpful when I was writing the tourism part for the Bandarban District entry. I followed the way of the classic tourist information books and put in proper names and value attributes. I believe, anyone who wants to visit Bandarban would have found the information helpful, which is not easily available on the Web. How can I circumvent that "advertisement or endorsement" thing to get real on-ground information across? (Aditya Kabir 14:19, 17 May 2006 (UTC))[reply]

I've replied in the talk page of the district article, but here are some suggestions.... do not emulate tourist information books. This is an encyclopedic entry, so do not address the reader as "you". Do not use judgement on which hotel is better, unless the hotels were formally compared, and someone has declared one as the best hotel. You need to cite sources which say this hotel is better. Otherwise, it becomes original research, which should not appear in articles. For example, you CAN say that, according to this magazine, or this visitor survey in that year, this hotel was cited as the best one in Bandarban town ([reference]). If you just want to mention the hotels' names, you can do that saying things like "X, Y, Z are some hotels in PQR area. Y is maintained by the king's family". etc. --Ragib 18:42, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Should I create a separate Web Page, for example on Geocities, on the tourist information details, and put a link in the external links part? Should I create a separate entry for tourism? Or should I use material from Lonely Planets, which is not featured on their web site and is a bit dated now? (Aditya Kabir 14:42, 17 May 2006 (UTC))[reply]

The thing you are looking for is wikitravel (http://wikitravel.org/en/Main_Page ). You can write details of tourist information, with entries for each particular hotel, and comparison statements like this hotel X is the best one etc. Then you can use a link to wikitravel using the {{wikitravel}} tag in the links section or the tourism section. That sounds like exactly what you are looking for.
Thanks, and sorry for the misunderstanding ... I should have sent you this comment earlier, and let you do the pruning yourself. --Ragib 18:42, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all the advice, on this page and on the talk page of the entry on Bandarban District. This would come really handy. I hope I'll keep receiving this kind of valuable guidance in future as well. And, please, watch for the links I put on Bandarban Ditsrict, because I intend to keep adding concentric rings of information on existing entries, as well as new entries that I create to cover everything that relates to the original entry. I have already created two on CCDB and BSCIC. (Aditya Kabir 15:20, 18 May 2006 (UTC))[reply]

VandalProof 1.2 Now Available[edit]

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:59, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ragib, No I don't misunderstand you. One thing I again trying to bring to your knowledge. In web Ayyavazhi is too poor. So far works of Ayyavazhi in web is less knowledgable and searching for it's source in internet may be like searching a needle in the ocean. But we can find more from books than from web. As soon as I complete my works on wikisource (Akilathirattu Ammanai and Arul Nool) it will be some more ease to judge Ayyavazhi. There are many Tamil users in Wikipedia and I think they may judge easily. Any way now I've done some thing in the article Ayyavazhi and in the discussion page. Request regarding problem user[edit]

Hi Ragibbhai - I request you as an admin for help in resolving some issues user:Anwar saadat has been causing. You may be aware that on WP:RFA, this user has caused issues by objecting to nominations for very generalized, unfounded reasons that have provoked serious responses from other people. On my RfA, he said that my username was "Islamophobic" and that my reversion of POV edits on Jinnah was vandalism. He has also been objecting in a generalized, unfounded manner on WP:FAC. In an FAC especially, people are supposed to object by reasons that can be fixed. Anwar does not. It appears that his objective in doing this is to wreck the nominations. Additionally, it seems that he operates with an anti-India, anti-Hindu bias (most of this behavior has been on Indian FACs and RfAs) - others may disagree, but it just seems that way. Additionally, other folks have found him to be trolling and stalking. When users have attempted to talk to him, try to work out the problems or try to understand his thinking, he has not responded to him, and instead he refactors his talkpage and brands the comments in a depreciating, mocking way. Already two administrators - user:Gurubrahma and user:Sundar have attempted to talk to him. I've also asked user:Taxman to help.

Please see user talk:Gurubrahma#Need your advice, where the full jist of the issues and diffs are available. I request you to please try to explain to him that his behavior is disruptive and rude. I've tried to explain to him that we want to work positively with him, but he has only mocked such comments. Rama's Arrow 00:43, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I'd like your opinion on pursuing an WP:RFC on this - is it the appropriate next step? Rama's Arrow 00:48, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Policy in wikipedia[edit]

I wonder what is the policy of the wikipwdia about evolution and Darwin. Did you see this website www.harunyahya.com . It contains many scientific facts. About religion and creation of human, there is a great war of logic. Zahid 20:32, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I checked out the site, and I'm sorry to say it is yet another pseudo-scientific site. There are literally thousands of such creationist sites in the Internet. Unfortunately for them, and fortunately for science, all of their so called assertions are gibberish. Creationists have been active in wikipedia too (see Intelligent design), but in the end, science triumphs over pseudo-science and the fertile imaginations of the bigots. Sorry if my statements offended you. Thanks. --Ragib 19:28, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please, can you provide me the addresses of those creationist sites. Pseudo-scientific is a new term for me. I think science says about the world around us. Then what will be pseudo-scientific? I am only a Buet student (and you were a teacher of Buet). It means I am a student. If I study the world around me, then I will study science. By studying this science, if I find the existence of God, then will it become pseudo-scientific? I was a student of Notre Dame College. In biology class, Gazi Azmol Sir said about the theory of evolution and about Darwin. Darwin didn't prove anything, he just proposed. That wasn't pseudo-scientific lecture. I want to know your scientific lecture on this topic soon. A proposal from Darwin is scientific, and a fact against Darwin is pseudo-scientific! You are saying about the end, I think the end time is yet to come. Then everything will be decided. Zahid 20:44, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See Intelligent design. As I said earlier, the site you mentioned is a perfect example of neo-creationism. I don't have the time to discuss these with you further. Raise any questions in Talk:Evolution or Talk:Darwinism. Thanks. --Ragib 21:02, 2 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bangla Wikipedia[edit]

Yes, I noticed that the Bangla Wikipedia seems to have stabilized. I had contributed some six or seven articles very early on (around Oct 2004) - but then some of them seem to have disappeared - with history and everything - due to a system failure perhaps. Since then I am a bit wary about Bangla wikipedia... but things seem to have stabilized now... Will do things from time to time, I guess... Mukerjee 17:57, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First of all, thank you for welcoming me. I am reading wikipedia long since, but just started writing yesterday. I have seen you edited two of my editings (in fact, i wrote only those two:) ) and I must say, they look much better after your editing. Thanks again. I am sorry as I made a couple of mistakes by placing contents on the wrong place (details inside summary) and by marking a major change as minor. I know I can correct it.

Yes, of course I like wikipedia and I am very much eager to stay. As a newcomer here, I always welcome any future comments from experienced persons - that includes you :). I hope my writing style will improve with time.

I dont know any further means of replying the welcome message you sent me other than writing here. So If I made another mistake here, I am sorry :).

Thanks again.

How to redirect an article?[edit]

Dear Mr. Ragib,

Thank you for your warm welcome. I am proud of being an wikipedian and very much happy and proud to see a Bangladeshi Administrator.

I need to know how to redirect an article into another one. I have created an internal link for cellular phone in the article titeled GrameenPhone, but it became a red link. I found wikipedia does have article on Mobile Phone. When i arranged a search on cellular phone, it showed a redirected to mobile phone article on the top of the result, but whenever I click on the link in grameenphone article, it tells me no article on cellular phone is found.

What am I supposed to do now?

Thanking you

Auyon 12:04, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Bengali script[edit]

Hallo Ragib,

You reverted the Bengali script page to Sameer's "clean" version (sorry incidentally for not having realised that my browser was not Unicode compatible; would have saved me and others a lot of work and time). In doing so, you reintroduced some mistakes which Sameer had already purged. The more important of these are:

1) What is given as "transliteration" is in fact a transcription, and even that terminology is not without its problems in this case. Sameer solved the problem by changing "transliteration" to "pronunciation" (in Romanisation and IPA respectively). Unfortunately, that too has been removed by you.

2) The first stanza of Janaganamana given is not the Indian national anthem in this form; the last line of the stanza is not a part of the anthem. Also, the whole poem consists of several stanzas, so that which is given is only part of the song. This information too was purged.

3) The romanisation for the retroflexes is inconsistent.

Do have a look at the page. I myself shall not try to rectify anything any more; this Wikipedia work is technically not my cup of tea.

Regards from RPD, 27th June 2006 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.48.78.202 (talkcontribs)

I reverted some edits made by you as some unicode insertions were incorrect. Jana Gana Mana's first stanza, in your opinion has the word উত্‌কল, actually, this is originally written with a khanda-ta ৎ rather than ত্‌ , I've corrected it in the main song page too. If you see something different elsewhere, that's an error. The place's name is correctly written as উৎকল as in Tagore's poem. The ta-hasant spelling arises from the inability of some keyboard mappers to write khanda-ta, and that original unicode specs missed this letter. As for the number 1 and number 2 points, please discuss it in the script/language page, since there are well-versed linguists editing/watching over those pages. I'm not a linguist, and any change made according to consensus among people with appropriate knowledge of the terminology is just fine with me. By the way, please sign your messages with ~~~~. Thanks. --Ragib 22:59, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Some words about me... you would be surprised hearing that, i never use the internet, not even e-mails... It's OPIUM! Have no time even for me! Told friends to obtain matters for works. and exactly that (Opium) is happened. Feeling great responsibility to open us-Bangla-to the world from my sense is grown, but now, I am wikiadict. All my writing-translating is vanished. I have net-using-chance for some days, when I would use it for `Educational Search' for the exam. Would work for wiki these dasys. Of course, hoping for future Mr. Rumi is writing from 1968 and is the editor and translator of over 70 books. He's related with over other 300 books (as an advisor/ planner/ cover designer/ book contributor and what else would i say!) And Humayun Ahmed has declared him as the 3rd impor... you know. Many Masud Rana's book was given by him, many ideas, he was that man who gave the idea of western books 2 decades ago, most of the magazines where he is the co-editor, actually, he is the founder and main editor and, after all, this man always wanted to be beyound a wall. And all these story... shouldn't be published. he deserves the article (And he doesn't even know about it!!). After all, I am not dependent on him, as I would want to make him happy. Never mind, my heart sank a little... Shouldn't I collect more data and recreate that article? O, I'm not from Rajshahi but stayed there for 3 years and 3 months, Lalmonirhat_ 4 months(Devastating Natural Beauty), Rangpur_10 days, Naogaon_1 week. Padma flows in my vains. I'm from Narayanganj. Can I do something in Bangla section by using Bijoy? Would you please collect the external links for the upcoming articles(As I can't)? Never mind please, sometimes I'm very talkative. Again, thanks for guideline and perfection. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Maksud3 (talkcontribs)

Maksud[edit]

Hi, please create categories_ Bangeli Language Poets and People of Dhaka. Maksud3 12:26, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Ragib..[edit]

Not long ago I was banned by you apparently for vandalism. I realise now what I had specifically done to incurr such a penalty.

Anyway, now I am asking you for help. Concerning the wiki "Khatri"; myself and others, have posted citings supporting khatri/ksatriya linkage and refuted against other citings that stated otherwise.

The problem is that there are STILL people changing the page without refuting our citings, quite blatently too it seems. If you go to the page and view it's history, you will see. One particular loser would be 'Onestone'. There was another 'Moderator3000' that was a vandal too (actually the reason i vandalised was out of sheer frustration since i incorrectly assumed moderator3000 was a special admin due to the nature of his name). Moderator3000 was banned, however now there is a moderator2000.

This page is quite messed up, even though there is some pretty solid evidence already posted in discussion. If you could look into it I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

Kind regards, IP: etc. etc

Hello ragib are you there??????? please answer..

Thanks[edit]

Actually, its thanks to you for doing all the hard work. Perhaps a little bit of explanation. I am on New Pages Patrol so I spend lengthy periods each day reviewing new articles for suitability. At peak times anything up to 5 articles a minute are being created. Consequently, I am not able to give marginal articles the research I should like. The problem with ignoring them is that they then disappear into the system. What I do if I am doubtful about an article is to bring them to AfD so the experts can pronounce upon them and I withdraw them if I have made a mistake or they are improved sufficiently. This generally seems to work quite well. BlueValour 02:31, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tagging of Articles by Maakhter[edit]

Please have a look at the following:

I have provided specific criticism for each and every article I tagged. In many articles wrong map is used. I cannot write an article about the use of incorrect maps. All I need to do is to tag and then raise the issue in the discussion.

Here is an example:

This article is biased and represents pro-Indian View.

For example “India says that over the last two years, a militant group, Lashkar-e-Toiba has split into two factions: Al Mansurin and Al Nasirin. Another new militant group reported to have emerged is the Save Kashmir Movement. Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (formerly known as Harkat-ul-Ansar) and Lashkar-e-Toiba are believed to be operating from Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir and Muridke, Pakistan respectively.[6] Other less well known groups are the Freedom Force and Farzandan-e-Milat. A smaller militant group, Al Badr, has been active in Kashmir for many years and is still believed to be functioning.”

How much space are you going to provide to explain Pakistani point of view?

There is a huge list of anti-Pakistani films and books in this article as well.

Maakhter 03:40, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks.

Bangladesh copyright policy[edit]

Hi - please let me know when you can, of what exactly is the copyright policy in Bangladesh for the use of images? Which media is in the public domain? Rama's Arrow 05:34, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You may look into the {{PD-Bangladesh}} Tag. I put a link to the Bangladesh Copyright Act of 2000 there. Image copyright is the same as in India ... 60 years after publication. Gov. Images are not in PD by default. --Ragib 05:44, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ragib - I've launched an FA drive for this article, and I badly need your help. Please help whenever you can find the time, and at the very least, please give a critical analysis. Rama's Arrow 23:16, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You should look into the Awami League website [3]. Also, for post-1971 Mujib's rule and his death, please refer to Bangladesh: A Legacy of Blood by Anthony Mascarenhaas. Template:Bangladesh liberation[edit]

Hi - can you please come up with a better title than "Bangladesh Liberation War," since technically the war didn't occur till 70-71, and the template discusses events such as "Language movement" long before that. Rama's Arrow 07:36, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Btw, the bio of Ziaur Rahman asserts that he gave Islam official recognition in the constitution, so I think that should be mentioned in Mujib's bio as a reversal of secularism. Rama's Arrow 07:38, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That needs some explanatin ... The original 1972 constitution had 4 basic principles: Secularity, Nationalism, Democracy and Socialism (meaning economic and social justice for all). However, Zia introduced amendments that replaced Secularity with Absolute trust and faith in the Almighty Allah. He also added Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim (we begin in the name of God, the Merciful), at the start of the constitution. General Ershad was the one who introduced the constitutional amendment that made Islam the state religion. (he was a shrewd politician ... not that he was pro-islam too much, but he wanted to manipulate public sentiment in favor of his very unpopular dictatorship). --Ragib 07:45, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Think can give these:

|Births |Deaths| Bangladeshi writers | Bengali writers | Bengali language writers | Bangladeshi poets | Bengali poets| Bengali language poets| Bangladesh Liberation War| Bangladeshi linguists| Bangladeshi educators|

While can't give these:

Bangladeshi people | Bengali people | People of Dhaka| Bengali Novelists| Bangladeshi dramatists and playwrights |

Thanks for the help. Sorry, I had to know more.

Hi - I'm assuming you have a copy of that book from which you obtained data on the assassination. If so, please give some page citations on any other data on Mujib the book has - that's a problem more serious than lack of images. This Fire Burns 04:28, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quite unfortunately, I don't. I had a Bengali translation with me back home, and I read the book several times in great detail. So, I can't provide any page numbers. The book is a treasure trove of information. It has two parts, the first one discusses Mujib and the second one discusses Zia. Can you look up your local libraries? I'd check my univ and local ones if they have a copy. --Ragib 04:53, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just realized something - all pics of Mujib prior to 1956 are public domain, as per Pakistani copyright law which applies since there was no B'desh then. Let's try to get hold of such pics - I got some, but they're in terrible quality. This Fire Burns 05:27, 4 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to do a copyedit before you sent to FAC, because I skimmed through the article (nice work), but some sentence constructs are repeated often. I'd like to change that. (The construct I'm talking about is "*ing something, he did something". That's fine as a construct (I often do it too), but seems like it's been repeated several times. Thanks Auyon for clarification. I'm not well versed in the distinction, and definitely you know this better than me. Can you expand both of the articles, and somehow imply the differences in one? Listing of Articles in Alphabetical Order[edit]

When listing articles in Bagladesh-related topics, should not we follow alphabetical order? in this way finding an article will become easier. We can re-arrange exsisting topics, and when any new topic will be included, we should maintain the order to place it in appropriate place. If we agree, I can re-arrange this list. Auyon 10 July

The list will be unmanageable if all the articles are listed in alphabetical manner. So, I divided the page into sections on various topics. Yes, within each section, you can list articles alphabetically. Right now, I just add new pages to the end of the appropriate section, to save time. --Ragib 09:59, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Yes, I shall arrange the topics under each sections into alphabetical order. Meanwhile, would you please set a request to the page to place new topics in appropriate place? If anyone fails to or doesnot have time put into right place, I shall try my best to re-arrange them, whenever I get time. auyon

Name Spellings[edit]

Thanks for adding Bengali alphabets for the names.

I find that Wikipedians are using name spellings as they like and frequent changes are being made in name spellings. I have a point here. While changing over to standard spellings may facilitate searches by others, the general tradition is to spell the name of a person as he or she used it. For example, Subhas Chandra Bose used Subhas and not Subhash; Keshub Chunder Sen used Chunder and not Chandra; Rammohun Roy used Rammohun and not Ram Mohan; Giris Chandra Sen used Giris and not Girish and so on. While most of the odd spellings were in earlier days, some people spell their names a different way even now.

One name spelling struck me as bit too odd. Satyendra Nath Dutta is spelt as Sattendra Nath Dutta in Wikipedia. I have never come across that spelling earlier. The poet himself used the standard spelling.

Similarly in country names, Bharat is not spelt as Varat.

Now place names are being formally changed and so we have to follow whatever the official changes are.

It is not a question of which one is right and which one wrong. There have been some traditions. Should we follow traditions or do what we consider as right?

You can think over the matter and decide.

Checking his "voting procedure" on RfAs and on Indian-related FACs FLCs, FARCs etc, gives you a fair idea. He is limiting himself so that the personal attacks are never enough to go over the limit. Then he keeps on blanking userpages like User:Subhash bose which I had to lock and also he changes the POV balance when he doesn't like it and makes personal attacks by his edit summaries "rv vandalism by ...." .Blnguyen | rant-line 04:16, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Problem[edit]

Hi, today, when I opened wikipedia, before logging in, I received a new message warning which is for IP 203.189.231.5 - Possibly that was my IP. The message is a warning from User:Martinp23 for blanking the page Sadiq Public School, Bahawalpur which I never edited!. I think someone else from the same network may have done it. As I am inside a LAN, any person using the same NAT can have the same public IP. I am requesting your advice on what I should do (I already contacted the person giving warning). Thanks Sayutee 03:25, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about it ... probably someone from the same public IP did the vandalism, and unless the IP is blocked, you should be able to login with your Id. You did the right thing by contacting the person giving the warning, and I'm sure he told you the same thing. In case you ever get stuck because of the block of the IP (which shouldn't happen because it's a public IP, so blocks are supposed to last for 15 minutes or so), send me an email. Thanks. --Ragib 03:28, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Posting[edit]

I posted a reply to you on my page and so you must have missed it. Sorry, for this. I am copyng it below.

I am new to Wikipedia. I do not know how much time I will continue to get for this. I was born and brought up in Bihar and therefore I am not that well up in Bengali. Then I will have to learn how to type in Bengali! I don't think I will join your project now but keep it up. Once it gets noticed there should no dearth of writers in Bengali. Best wishes. 59.93.193.134 05:51, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, my name got disconnected. P.K.Niyogi 05:53, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please use edit summaries and Show preview button more often. btw, it is generally considered better form to reply on the talkpage of the addresser. Welcome!! --Gurubrahma 05:42, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hi, I'm jayaddev. I'm just trying to add some details about India. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jayaddev (talkcontribs) .

I dont know how to contact you.

Thank you for your message: Please add your content to India as an emerging superpower. Thank you. --Ragib 03:24, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

But, I couldn't find the link in India.

I'm sorry if I made something wrong.

How can I CONTACT YOU?

Jayaddev. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jayaddev (talkcontribs) .

I got your message. As I suggested, please add your content to the particular article. India, as the main country page, is supposed to be a summary about things related to India. The particular topic should go to its own article, which in this case is India as an emerging superpower. Thank you. --Ragib 03:35, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jayaddev[edit]

Got your message. But, Where can I add? There is no link.

sorry to tell you, I couldn't understand.

The page of India was full of spelling mistakes, I changed it correctly, I added so many details, still adding all the good and informative sections, But it's not activating.

I dont know why.

I dont know why you stopped me.

I'm not aware of any rules of wikipedia. I'm just trying to do good.

Not in the case of India, I'm trying to make wikipedia good.

So, are you suggesting that, I can make a sub heading about India as an emerging super power, in the page India?

Or can I make a link to "India as an emerging super power", from "India"? There is no link to 'India as an emerging super power", in the page 'India'. How will user's go to that page?

Thanks, Jayaddev.

Elven6 and ARYAN818[edit]

Hi Ragib - these two editors have shifted their squabbling to Hinduism and the Sikh Panth, with revert wars, hot exchanges 'n all. I don't know if this merits punitive actions, but I hope you'll keep an eye on this page. This Fire Burns Always 20:57, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rama stfu and stop stalking me, he keeps deleting the propsal to get rid of his page and im telling him not to OK!

This above and this [11] violation of WP:NPA from Elven. Please take actionThis Fire Burns Always 23:12, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rama you need to learn how to fuck off! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Elven6 (talkcontribs)

Elven6, you're heading for a *permanent* ban. I don't know what to do but laugh at people that talk like this. lol! Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 23:28, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ragib - thanks for your help on this issue. This Fire Burns Always 01:29, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

3 RR violation on Khalifa Page[edit]

I just found your message right after I had reverted. Does the 3rr rule count if I'm reverting for the purpose of readding material simply deleted by another editor because he doesn't like it (or the source)?

FA efforts[edit]

Yo Ragib - please do give your take on Maulana Azad and Kazi Nazrul Islam - the latter's FAC should be ready in a couple of days. This Fire Burns Always 02:56, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

FA drives[edit]

Yo - I urge your participation and welcome your advice for the FA drives of Maulana Azad and the History of Mumbai. Please do make some time for these! This Fire Burns Always 05:19, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Elven6[edit]

Hi Ragib, hope you're doing well. This user has apologised and is requesting to be unblocked. What's your opinon on this? Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 18:07, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm not really convinced at the "change of attitude", but since he has promised not to repeat his behavior, I think the blocking admin can be asked to review this. --Ragib 18:46, 25 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Duncharris[edit]

Dunc has just replied on his talk page - check his contributions if you will, I know I'm to blame as well, but I'm in a bad mood and not in the mindset for this sort of thing. Dunc, using admin-rollback to revert changes that are *NOT* vandalism is not the correct and proper usage of the button. Please refrain from using this for non-vandalism reverts. --Ragib 22:37, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
