Hi there. This user is requesting an unblock after about 4 years. You were the original blocking admin. I'm going to raise an ANI to see what people think about unblocking the user as I don't know them quite well enough to rule on my own. Is that okay with you? Request Move / Questions[edit]

Hey Stephen:

A few months back I asked if you could unlock an article that you moved to my account. Today I'm here to request if you could move http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Krispin16/VSide back to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/vSide. I also have 2 questions. One is about web references. Is it preferred to use work=XXXXX in web citations? The other question is about images we added to the article. They were removed because the copyright conflicted with pictures in the user pages. Is there a way to undo that, or do we have to re-upload those again?

Thank you for taking the time to address my question Krispin16 (talk) 20:40, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request for undeletion[edit]

Hello i have been using wikipedia for a while but i had just made a user account today, just to do what i am doing now. I noticed that the page "Initial D Car Modifications and Character Relations" had been speed deleted by you in 2007 under the code (csd r1). I researched a bit to understand more about the guidelines of deleting, and i do not quite understand. Why was this page deleted? It had valuable information to all Initial D fans, and contained information that i could not find anywhere else. But there is an alternative to undeleting the page, there is another page regarding Initial D that is titled "List of Initial D characters and teams". This page has a list of the main characters and information about their cars. The only problem is that it is missing some information, that i am sure was in the page "Initial D Car Modifications and Character Relations". So if you could please go over this specific deletion and maybe look into finding more information for the other page, i would be joyed. Thank you for your time. Deletion[edit]

I'm curious why you think an article on a 60 year old canoe manufacturer doesn't indicate notability. Do you think this subject is less notable than someone who plays one game in the NFL or qualifies for an Olympic team? I was also not given an opportunity to dispute the deletion on the article's talk page. This type of deletion makes working on Wikipedia rather unpleasant. I hope you will be more helpful and supportive of goof fatih contributions made to Wikipedia in the future. I don't see any need to rush to delete the work of others. Finding sources and working up articles takes a lot more effort than pushing buttons and tearing stuff down. I understand that Wikipedia is fast losing contributors. This type of approach may explain why. Take care and Happy Holidays. Candleabracadabra (talk) 23:46, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request for undeletion[edit]

Hello Stephen, I am a long time Wikipedia user. I recently noticed that the page "Nimble Storage" has been deleted by you on January 7th under CSD A7. Nimble Storage (www.nimblestorage.com) is the fastest growing storage company in history. Nimble's break-through CASL architecture is redefining the enterprise storage industry. The article is already linked to atleast four other Wikipedia pages already. We've had multiple visits to Nimble website from Wikipedia in the past after users read the Nimble Storage wikipedia page. I can share Google analytics logs if that would be of interest to you. Considering the importance of this article, could you please undelete the wiki page so that users searching for Nimble Storage can get to know about it? Thank you for your help. If you need any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact me. —Nimblestorage 2:35, 19 January 2012 (PDT)

I've restored the page to User:Nimbleneo/Nimble Storage for you to improve. Stephen 02:53, 30 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Stephen, I'm not sure if I'm doing this request correctly but I think I am. In 2007 you deleted page "Daniel Trett";

09:43, 10 July 2007 Stephen (talk | contribs) deleted page Daniel Trett (Expired PROD, concern was: No sources, NN.)

Because their was no sources to substantiate the page. Over the last 5/6 years my poker tournament winnings now exceed $120,000 and evidence of this can be found on a number of reliable poker websites including The Hendon Mob and Global Poker Index. Can this page be restored please? so I can edit it. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.242.165.217 (talk) 06:42, 28 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview[edit]

Dear Stephen,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Perfect Stranger[edit]

Umm, OK. I would really like an explanation as to why you deleted Perfect Stranger's ARTIST Page. I am speaking in reference to the Isreal-based progressive psy/tech producer. He is one of the most cutting edge producers in our scene/industry and I find it really defiant that you would go and shed such disrespect by claiming him as an insignificant. Hi Stephen: I'd like to recreate the article on 1Password. It was previously speedy-deleted as G11 in 2010. However, this software is now notable enough to warrant an article, analogous to other password managers such as LastPass, KeePass etc.
Let me know if I should go ahead with it or not. Thanks. EngineerFromVega 09:31, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for providing the deleted text. I'll try to improve and move it to the mainspace. EngineerFromVega 13:09, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that this article has been protected, yet it still contains a false and defamatory statement:

"Fair Work Australia has commenced proceedings against Thomson in the Federal Court ."

This is a defamatory libel; there are no current proceedings against Mr Thomson there, as you may verify by visiting https://www.comcourts.gov.au/public/esearch/disclaimer

Could you please remove this libel or unlock the article. 121.216.230.139 (talk) 05:27, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the disputed sentence, as it is not backed up by the source cited. I would however advise you to read WP:LAWSUIT and be careful to avoid language that implies that you or anyone else may take legal action against Wikipedia or any of its editors. (Of course, you may take legal action - but you may not continue to edit Wikipedia while doing so.) --Demiurge1000 (talk) 05:56, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The material below was added after I posted the help request for an administrator above. How does this request not require administrative action? If I had reverted the edit myself, I am certain that someone somewhere would have pounced on me for violation of the 3RR rule. So, how exactly was I supposed to request the edit to be reverted, if not via administrative action? Please advise. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 17:59, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You could just request it there on the talk page for one of the other interested and collaborating parties. Having an administrator perform the edit might have added a false authority to the version presented. --Stephen 07:27, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism by 129.15.131.141[edit]

This person or persons keeps going to all NCAA pages and remarkably has the attendance to all games of the past. On the Georgia page they say a year book is a source. I can claim anything myself however that does show the sores. I think it needs something more than that to show they know what they are posting/ editing. I have deleted quite a few not because I don’t like what they are editing they are unhorsed and it kind of looks like guess work. It seems they don’t seem to want to work with anyone on them. I think this person needs to be blocked altogether. MDSanker 01:09, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you go to the media guide for 2012 it shows some of the numbers a close or the same. However I randomly checked two years and the number are made up. 1964 This poster has 738361 total, real number was 364142, they had the top attendance game right GT game 52050. 1966 was the next year I checked this one was closer they have 428734 tot, real number was 416368, the top att game they have SMU at 75504 real was Florida 62800, they had this game as 62820. This kind of proves my point [1] MDSanker 12:41, 24 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Australian Centre for Photography[edit]

Hi Stephen, I noticed you deleted the page for the Australian Centre for Photography, I'm not sure what it contained before but I'd like to take a crack at making the page as I think the centre is of noteworthy merit, what are your thoughts on the matter? Iamjameshill (talk) 12:04, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There's no problem in principle to recreating the page, it was deleted primarily as a conflict of interest copyright violation. Stephen 00:18, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In absentia[edit]

Hello. The previous wording of the line was poorly formed - putting it into active voice (which I have now done) helps to illuminate the problem. One is not "sentenced in absentia" as if it were a compound verb. The relevant details of the sentencing (i.e., term of imprisonment, execution, etc.) functions as a direct object, while "in absentia" functions as an adverb, since it modifies the verb. The direct object should be placed either directly after the verb or directly after the indirect object, and the adverb. For example, one would not say "Frank kicked slowly to Jim the ball." Does that make sense? Parsecboy (talk) 20:58, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All makes perfect sense, thanks. The discussion has moved on though and we have a different phrasing on the main page now. Stephen 00:17, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Need for a "Satellite Direct" article[edit]

Hi Stephen, I noted you and Tedder ended two attempts to setup a "Satellite Direct" article in March of 2011, and I commend you both for that. Since I'm not an administrator, I haven't been able to see whatever "ad" was attempted by them back then, but I have no doubt that this "somewhat scuzzy" company was attempting to use Wikipedia as one of their advertising platforms for what I see as their very heavily "hyped up" and somewhat misleading advertising campaign.
Having said that, I have recently become a subscriber of theirs, and I do believe that their company isn't "total scuz". There is a certain element of value in their product, even though the value of their product is not very well represented by their hyped-up ad campaign. They've now been around for a couple of years, and a Google search on their name now yields nearly 2 million hits. Also, there is currently much confusion on the internet where their name gets mixed up with a magazine that goes by that same name, as well as the dish satellite company "DirecTV". Therefor, I think that it may be time to restart an article about them, to be vigilant to prevent any of their minions from commandeering their article for their own advert. purposes (as I'm sure they will attempt at least once or twice), and to set up a good disambiguation page to clarify which company is what.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Scott P. (talk) 15:15, 19 December 2012 (UTC) (PS this request for consideration also sent to Tedder)[reply]

PPS: If you're up for considering whether or not Wikipedia could host a neutral and factual article about this company, I would be willing to promise that I will keep a certain type of "vigil" over that article for a reasonable length of time to guard against any spam edits there. If the company repeatedly vandalises their own article, then we could simply put an 'editorial lock' on the article to stabilize the article and keep them out. You appear to me to probably be an adiministrator. If you want to do this, please inform me and unblock that article. If you don't that's fine too. Thanks, Scott P. (talk) 17:53, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for unblocking that article. I should get something up there this weekend. Scott P. (talk) 05:58, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re: RD[edit]

Wikipedia_talk:In_the_news/Archive_42#RD_max_lifetime gave us this: RD items are removed when the date of death is older than the oldest item on the template. However, like normal template items, there is some "feasible maximum" of items you can have on the template (you can't really have 7 RDs at once), and that's seemed to be 3 at a time, since for many browsers it causes additional wrapping. This rationale was based on Tariq's edit, and it has been pretty much been used in other instances: [2], [3], for example. SpencerT♦C 00:34, 31 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kepler 37b[edit]

Hey, I wanted to let you know I reverted you here. The new article is on the short side, and I wanted to give the article just a little more time to be developed before we switch it (it only has 2 well-formed paragraphs) and some of the information in the original article hasn't been transferred yet. If I'm wrong, feel free to revert me, but I thought that the update was on the short side, and that it probably should have some sort of small discussion on ITN/C before changing the article that everyone evaluated to a different one. Restored speedy deletion[edit]

Hi. :) In 2011, you deleted article Louis J. Posner under A7. A few weeks ago it was restored by means of pasting it in from a Wikipedia mirror. I have had to restore the history of the deleted version to take care of attribution, but wanted to advise you that it's all back at Louis Joseph Posner so you would have a chance to look at the article, if you like, and see if you believe concerns remain. Copyright issues taken care of, I move on. :D --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:43, 1 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Decade portals[edit]

Hi, Stephen! I took a look at this edit.

Disasters and calamities with numbers of casualties define decades. Oklahoma City Bombing and the Waco Attack characterize the 1990s, for instance. September 11 characterizes the 2000s, etc. Therefore decade portals are highly relevant to disasters.

These decade portals come from the French Wikipedia and they need the same level of exposure that the French give to their equivalents. WhisperToMe (talk) 02:48, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Revision deletion request[edit]

Hi, Stephen. I randomly picked you from the list of admins who do revision deletion. Back in 2009, somebody edited my user page to include a message that should have gone on my talk page [4] (in fact, it was part of a campaign by sockpuppets of Montreux69 so it shouldn't really have gone anywhere). Later, another user added [different garbage] to my user page. Since then, various IP editors have restored one or other of these edits several times and I've blanked them. Is there any chance that the old versions of my user page (i.e., everything except for the current empty version) could be deleted from the history to stop people from restoring them? I'd class this as "Purely disruptive material that is of little or no relevance or merit to the project." Thanks for your time. Dricherby (talk) 11:08, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

You deleted the page started for Kevin L. McCrudden. Stating it was "promotional." How is anything "biographical" not "promotional?" There were several news sources and news clips given as "objective sources" and even a page from The United States Congress. What information do you need then in order to assign or move this worthy page forward? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.114.230.83 (talk) 19:30, 21 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article was highly promotional with multiple superlatives and links to the same sales website. Stephen 21:52, 21 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stephen. I'm sorry. That's not true. One of the sites is The United States Office of Congressional Records showing the passage of H. Res 308, which established January 2nd as National Motivation & Inspiration Day. There were 2 other links to separate appearances on Fox & Friends. They may seem the same, but they were different years. And there are several other TV appearances as proof to verify legitimacy.

There was a link to Amazon.com showing Kevin's book, "Who Are You?"Italic text where he introduces his "21st Century Multidimensional Hierarchy of Needs," which is considered the most significant addition to Dr. Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs in 60 years. Here is what world renowned speaker Brian Tracy says about Kevin's book:“Ever since the Delphic oracle said, “Man, know thyself,” self-knowledge and self-understanding have been essential to inner happiness and outer achievement. (Kevin’s) book shows you how to gain the inner awareness that can change your life.”

You were also given links to The Suffolk County Board of Elections showing the results of Kevin's run for office in 1997 and a link to SUNYAC All Conference Team of 1985 (he made the all Conference teams in '83, 84 and '85)

Stephen. These were all internationally recognized sites, that are considered objective and not influence by Mr. McCrudden. What more would you want?

Here are sites that Mr. McCrudden controls, that provides links to all of these sources: www.KevinMcCrudden.com (his personal site) www.MotivateAmerica.us (his company) www.MotivationandInspirationDay.org (founder) www.AmericanMotivationAwards.com (creator) www.SoccerLIMagazine.com ( Publisher) www.GoalKeeper.us (inventor)

Stephen. There are people that have accomplished far less than Mr. McCrudden with wiki pages. We're even missing several items.

Hello again Stephen. How would you like to proceed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.114.91.34 (talk) 20:59, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Because you seem to have a close association with Kevin, and the deleted article was created by Kevin, there is a conflict of interest in your creating the article. I suggest you take the article creation request to WP:Articles for creation, where someone will help your create a neutral article to be moved into the main Wikipedia area. Stephen 23:02, 24 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Stephen. That's all I have been asking for.

You mean everyone of the Wiki pages that have been created for a person have been created by someone else? I think that's naive. All of the links and sources are totally objective sites that have nothing to do with Mr. McCrudden. If anyone writes something positive about someone and believes they deserve a Wiki page...isn't that biased de facto? (on its face?)

I appreciate your input and guidance. So, what is the link I should use and if I am giving links to news sites and the United States Government and you consider them a "conflict of interest," then what links should I use? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.114.230.83 (talk) 16:29, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Stephen. This seems to be a circular process, because I am being brought back to the very same page where I started last week and having to start all over again? The WP:Articles for Creation brings me right back where I was last week. So, do I put in the same links to Congress and Fox News like I did? I thought I saw somewhere that if you and I can't agree that the article about Mr. McCrudden is valid, then we or I should "escalate it for review" or something? Do you know how to do that? Or do I literally have to start all over again?

Thanx again for your time. I look forward to your response and guidance. 69.114.230.83 (talk) 20:34, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that the links you have used are a conflict of interest. The conflict of interest arises by virtue of you wanting to write an article about a person with whom you have a close connection. Have another read of the conflict of interest guideline. It may prevent you from writing a neutral balanced article. Let's take one example. You say that Kevin in the ONLY motivator to have a day passed through Congress. When I look at the congress link, the text doesn't mention Kevin, and suggests that it is only support for NY and Long Island's efforts to create a day. Gotcha Stephen. I don't think anyone that has written a page about another person has ever written it for someone that didn't either pay them or that they didn't know? How else are some of these created? I've seen some of the pages. There is no way they were created unless it was from someone that knew them. Despite that, all of the other pages were objective pages, here is the actual language from the floor as the Resolution was discussed and approved: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/D?r107:1:./temp/~r107QI1uBZ::

"Mr. Speaker, I again commend my colleague for introducing this measure and urge its swift passage.

Mr. Speaker, I reserve the balance of my time.

Mrs. JO ANN DAVIS of Virginia. Mr. Speaker, I yield as much time as he may consume to the gentleman from New York (Mr. GRUCCI).

Mr. GRUCCI. Mr. Speaker, I thank the gentlewoman from Virginia (Mrs. JO ANN DAVIS) for yielding me time.

Mr. Speaker, in the wake of the September 11 attacks against our Nation, it is now important than ever to live each day with a sense of renewed spirit. It is for this reason that I stand before you today in support of my bill, H.R. 308, which supports the goals of National Motivation and Inspiration Day.

Throughout history, motivation and inspiration have been vital components of all great movements. They are qualities that have played an invaluable role in the intellectual movements, the civil rights movements, the suffrage movements and many more. All great leaders from Martin Luther King, Jr., and Winston Churchill to Ronald Reagan and Mother Theresa have all shared, among other things, the ability to motivate the masses and inspire them to achieve great goals.

In our daily lives we look to our teachers, parents, coaches, and clergy to do the same, whether it is in the victory at the end of a sporting event, a record-breaking year in the sales department, making the dean's list, or earning the rank of officer in our fine military forces, progress and betterment for all people is certain to arise from motivation and inspiration.

On September 11 we were all inspired by the hundreds of firefighters, police officers, and rescue workers who ran up and into the Twin Towers to save the lives of the thousands of people while sacrificing their own. The actions of these brave men and women on September 11 have motivated each American to do something to better contribute to the good of our society. Today we need to publicly recognize the importance of motivation and inspiration in our daily lives.

House Resolution 308 supports the goals of celebrating National Motivation and Inspiration Day on January 2 of each year, a time that is traditionally used for reflection, planning, and goal setting. There is no better time to celebrate motivation and inspiration than during the season of New Year's resolutions, when we are all trying to find ways to maintain our goals throughout the year.

I would like to thank the Committee on Government Reform chairman, the gentleman from Illinois (Mr. BURTON), and the majority leader, the gentleman from Texas (Mr. ARMEY), and their staff for helping me bring this measure to the floor. I would also like to thank my constituent and my friend, Kevin McCrudden, whose birthday it is today, for coming up with this idea and for working closely with me and my staff to see that this comes to fruitionBold text

Hello Stephen. Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving. As you see in the floor discussion of H. Res. 308, Mr. McCrudden is mentioned specifically as the person that came forward with the creation of National Motivation & Inspiration Day.

What more do you need? ~ ~ ~ ~

Of Course, when I type in "Deletion Review" it says there is no page? Is that the proper name or page? 69.114.230.83 (talk) 19:17, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I had already given you the link to Deletion Review when we discussed it earlier. When you type Deletion Review into the search box, it is the first result returned. Stephen 00:52, 11 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am curious if there's some problem with the German coalition nomination that you posted the South Sudan item, but not the German one? Any concerns can be addressed. μηδείς (talk) 05:50, 18 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
