Introduction[edit]

Since changes to this list may affect lower-level lists, discussions regarding its composition are best initiated at Wikipedia talk:Vital articles.

All proposals must remain open for !voting, and discussion, for a minimum of 15 days, after which:

  1. After 15 days it may be closed as PASSED if there are (a) 5 or more supports, AND (b) at least two-thirds are in support.
  2. After 30 days it may be closed as FAILED if there are (a) 3 or more opposes, AND (b) it failed to earn two-thirds support.
  3. After 30 days it may be closed as NO CONSENSUS if the proposal hasn't received any !votes for +30 days, regardless of tally.
  4. After 60 days it may be closed as NO CONSENSUS if the proposal has (a) less than 5 supports, AND (b) less than two-thirds support.

Nominations should be left open beyond the above-listed minimums if they have a reasonable chance of passing. We believe that an informed discussion with more editor participation is likely to produce an improved and more stable final list, so be patient with our process.

Already done – this list is maintained by a computer program, it just takes a little while sometimes. Tollens (talk) 09:52, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Should be cascadingly protected[edit]

These are extremely important articles and should be cascadingly protected like the main page: -The arts -Earth -Human -Human history -Life -Mathematics -Philosophy -Science -Society -Technology 222.152.99.203 (talk) 01:05, 1 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thus making them unable to be improved. Great work! ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 16:05, 2 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Half way...[edit]

5/10 articles of Vital 1 are either GA or FA. CactiStaccingCrane (talk) 07:10, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Kudos to those involved. Cobblet (talk) 14:35, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish translation[edit]

Hi,

I would love for this project to be available to Spanish speakers.

Sadly, there is no option to translate the page. I don’t know if this limitation is related to the extended protection it enjoys.

If there’s any way around this, I would love to contribute to the translation. AnFerMa (talk) 08:24, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, there is an EC restriction on translations (however, if you are (auto)confirmed, I think you can translate but you can't keep the translation anywhere else than draft space). Unfortunately, while I do know a bit of Spanish and could help translate, this is something that would have to be discussed with eswiki, and probably can't just be translated. thetechie@enwiki: ~/talk/ $ 00:47, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@AnFerMa, I'm not sure translating this page would be a good idea. Information should ideally be recorded in a centralized manner — translating the vital articles list into multiple languages would make it exponentially harder to keep organized, as the lists would immediately start going out of sync.
There is meta:List of articles every Wikipedia should have, which is a language-independent list to the extent that it's hosted on Meta, so maybe use that? Even that should probably be merged with the Vital Articles list (or vice versa), as the idea behind it is basically the same, and this list aims (at least in theory) to avoid giving any preference to English language topics.

Good point, I forgot to add those things in my reply. Thanks @Sdkb! thetechie@enwiki: ~/talk/ $ 14:21, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
